TikTok is still the platform where a brand-new account can reach a huge audience with one video. That is because the For You feed cares far more about how people react to a video than about how many followers you have.
How the For You feed works
TikTok shows each new video to a small group of people. If they watch it through, rewatch it, share it or comment, it is shown to a larger group — and so on. TikTok says recommendations are based on user interactions, video information (like sounds and hashtags) and device or account settings. Follower count is not a strong factor on its own.
What this means for you: every video is a fresh chance. One weak video does not ruin your account, and one strong video can change it.
The three-second rule
Most people decide whether to keep watching in the first one to three seconds. Strong hooks:
- Show the result first. “This is the room before and after €40.”
- Ask a question people want answered. “Why does your sourdough go flat?”
- Start mid-action. Cut the intro entirely.
- Use on-screen text that repeats the hook for people watching without sound.
Keep it as short as the idea
Completion rate matters. If the idea fits in 12 seconds, do not stretch it to 40. Longer videos can do very well — TikTok has pushed longer content — but only when every second earns its place.
Find your format, then repeat it
The fastest-growing small accounts usually find one format that works and turn it into a series: “Part 1, Part 2…”, “Day 14 of…”, “Rating every…”. Series give viewers a reason to follow, because they want the next one.
A realistic posting rhythm
- Start with 4–5 videos a week for the first month to learn faster.
- Test different times for two weeks, then stick with what works.
- Batch-film on one day so you are not creating under pressure.
Quality and consistency beat posting five times a day for a week and burning out.
Use sounds and trends wisely
Trending sounds can help a video get discovered, but only if they fit your content. A trend that has nothing to do with your niche brings views from people who will never follow. Save sounds you like and use them when you have the right idea.
Comments are content
Reply to comments with video replies. They are easy content ideas, they show viewers you listen, and they often perform well. Pin a comment that adds context or asks a question.
Go LIVE when you can
Once you meet TikTok’s local follower requirement for LIVE, going live regularly builds a closer community and can bring new viewers. Plan a simple topic — a Q&A, a tutorial, a behind-the-scenes look.
What about buying followers on TikTok?
TikTok is strict here. Its rules prohibit fake engagement, and detected activity can be removed and can affect eligibility for programs like the Creator Rewards Program and Creator Marketplace. Because follower count matters less on TikTok than elsewhere, a paid boost also does less. If you are considering it anyway, read our honest safety guide first.
A simple weekly review
Every Sunday, check TikTok Studio analytics:
- Which video had the highest average watch time? Why?
- Which video got the most shares? Make more like it.
- Where did viewers drop off? Cut that part next time.
Write down one change to try next week. Small, steady improvements are how small accounts become big ones.
